System engineering is apparently the new title holder of "The best jobs in the US", coming in as the first place in a recent CNN report.

Handling the bigger and heavily invested mega projects around the world, these engineers have a very large demand amongst the biggest employers around, from the large pharmaceutical companies to the auto makers on to the complex defense systems and so on. And when the big guys are calling, the engineers are coming.

The downside off course are the long hours and hectic deadlines which are expected at the levels of projects those companies are involved. But once you have that experience and pedigree to go along, you might find yourself in a very good position in your professional life going forward.
